Revúca
Revúca is closer to my heart than most places I've visited in Slovakia. It really does feel off-the-beaten-path, tucked amid forested mountains and far from any highway or train station (well, there is a train station, but it has been closed for years). This hardy town of 11,000 lies in one of the most beautiful pockets of the country. Slovaks I've met elsewhere in the country tend to be surprised I have spent so much time here. I, for my part, have no regrets.
